The Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH), established in 1983, is one of the largest research centers in Greece with well-organized facilities, highly qualified personnel and a reputation as a top-level research foundation worldwide. FORTH reports to the General Secretariat for Research and Technology of the Hellenic Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs, Culture and Sports. FORTH includes six Research Institutes. The Institute of Chemical Engineering Science (ICE-HT) and the Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser (IESL) are two of the founding Institutes of FORTH. The R&D activities of FORTH/ICE-HT are concentrated along three major axis: Nanotechnology & Materials, Energy & Environment, and Biosciences & Biotechnology. The corresponding’s of FORTH/IESL are divided to Laser Interactions & Photonics and Materials & Devices clusters with specific activities to Polymer & Colloid Science. Training and education through research and the exploitation of technologically mature applications are equally important priorities for both FORTH institutes.
